Liverpool didn’t go easy in the summer transfer window when it came to strengthening their squad. The Merysiders broke the British transfer record fee twice in just one window as Arne Slot made a statement about the new era.
His first transfer window as a Liverpool manager was quiet as he only signed two players. Federico Chiesa was acquired from Juventus, and Giorgi Mamardashvili was signed from Valencia.
Despite a quiet window, Arne Slot managed to win the English Premier League title in his first season. No Liverpool manager has ever been able to achieve this feat.
The Dutchman also became the first Liverpool manager to win any silverware in his first season in charge at Anfield. His second summer was different, though, as the manager splashed the cash for top players.
Alexander Isak was signed on deadline day for £125m. This was not the first time the Merseysiders broke the British record during that transfer window.
Before Isak’s arrival, Florian Wirtz was brought in from Bayer Leverkusen. The deal was worth as much as £116m in total. Since then, the German midfielder has set up great expectations on the Isles.
Although Wirtz has actually experienced a slow start in the English Premier League. He has registered no goals or assists in his first three Premier League matches.

Michael Owen tips Florian Wirtz to be “one of the best” at Anfield
Surprisingly, though, former Liverpool sensation Michael Owen had some kind words for the German. He pointed towards the latter’s talent and talked about how starts in a new environment can be slow.
“It’s fair to say that he hasn’t set the Premier League alight. But it’s also fair to say there have been three games, and you can absolutely tell he’s quality”, he told talkSPORT via BetSelect.
The former English footballer also talked about Florian’s Community Shield game, “In the Community Shield game, he did a couple of things that took my breath away, and I was like, ‘I’m more excited about seeing him than any other player this season.'”
“It’s fair to say he’s been reasonably quiet in the three games so far, but he is adapting to a new league. There’s no question at all about his talent. He could be absolutely anything he wants to be.”
“I’m including the player of the season, one of the best players in the world, in the future”, the Englishman claimed.
