“Did you see after?”: Micah Richards spotted something off about Jurgen Klopp after Pep Guardiola embrace

Micah Richards thinks he spotted something off about Jurgen Klopp after Pep Guardiola passionately embraced the German manager following Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City.

The Premier League’s top dogs went at it on Sunday but couldn’t find a way to beat each other, with the Reds twice cancelling out City’s lead.

It was almost a case of Deja Vu after Liverpool were pegged back twice earlier this season when the Blues visited Anfield.

The title race is no closer to being concluded as Liverpool (73) still trail Manchester City (74) by a single point but they will find encouragement in the fact that they have already made up the 14 point gap that Guardiola’s side had earlier this season.

On form, Liverpool are the best side defensively in the Premier League and they will hope their stingy defence can guide them to a second Premier League title in three years.

Speaking on The Monday Night Club on BBC 5 Live Sport, host Kelly Cates asked: “Did you see the half high-five, half-handshake that Pep Guardiola went in on at Jurgen Klopp at full-time?”

Richards joked: “I thought he was going full Will Smith,” as a reference to the debacle at the Oscars between the actor and Chris Rock.

“He sort of went and then hugged.”

Richards thinks he spotted Klopp’s visage change noticeably after the embrace with the Man City manager, suggesting he’s not as happy with a draw as Pep.

“Did you see after though? When they hugged, Klopp smiled for about two seconds, and then, as soon as he got past him, he went straight into straight-face.

“Normally, Klopp is the merrier of the two, but there’s something in him from that game that Pep seemed the happier of the two managers.”

While it’s all just speculation, I can’t imagine Klopp was happy with the result or with how his side played.

They started slowly, they gifted City chances and frankly defended like most sides that play the league leaders: with fear.

It was frustrating to watch but hopefully, Klopp and Pep Lijnders will have learnt all that they needed to in order to win against their rivals at Wembley in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
