Liverpool £43m midfield target believes a move could happen ‘at any time’

Matheus Nunes

Liverpool’s midfield target Matheus Nunes believes a move could happen ‘at any time’ to Anfield, following strong links in recent weeks.

The Reds have already picked up the best from the Portuguese league signing Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.

Rumours have circulated for most of the summer window, despite Jurgen Klopp’s claims that he is happy with his midfield options.

Portuguese newspaper Jornal de Noticias reports that Liverpool recently showed a strong interest in signing Sporting star Matheus Nunes.

Correio da Manha claims that Nunes is of the belief that a move to the Premier League could materialise at any time this summer.

The Portuguese midfielder is contracted at Sporting CP until 2026 but his release clause is set at £50.6M (€60M).

However, it has been reported that the club will accept offers of €50M (£42.5M) for their man.

Other Premier League sides, such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Wolves have also been linked with a move.

What would Nunes bring to Liverpool’s midfield?

Nunes is a gifted technical midfielder with great ball-carrying ability that has caught the eye of some of Europe’s top sides.

Averaging 2.5 dribbles and long balls per game in the league, he would offer a new dimension to Liverpool’s midfield.

A composed player capable of playing in a midfield pivot or Klopp’s favoured 4-3-3 – he would offer youth, energy and availability as he boasts a stellar injury record.

The likes of Thiago, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have experienced regular niggles and small injuries which has been a worry for fans.

Nunes would mostly always be available and would be a reliable figure in the side, much like former midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum.

With links to Jude Bellingham next summer, Nunes could be the perfect alternative if that signing doesn’t happen.
