Match Preview: Liverpool vs Crystal Palace

Liverpool welcome Crystal Palace to Anfield this evening for their second game since the restart.

Going into this game The Reds know a win tonight will put them just one result away from the title.

Meanwhile, Sunday afternoon saw Liverpool draw 0-0 with Merseyside rivals Everton. The Reds found it difficult to break down a well organised Everton side. It was the home side who had the better chances with Richarlison, Calvert-Lewin and Tom Davies call coming close.

Saturday evening saw Crystal Palace take all three points away at Bournemouth winning 2-0. A free-kick from Luka Milivojevic and a well-worked team goal from Jordan Ayew wrapped the game up before half time. The away sides backline looked well organised as they only allowed one shot on target all game.

The reverse fixture between these two sides saw late drama as Liverpool left Selhurst Park with all three points winning 2-1. It looked like Liverpool would only leave with a point after Wilfred Zaha equalised in the 82nd minute. But a Roberto Firmino 85th minute goal snatched it for Liverpool.

Interestingly, Liverpool’s last home defeat was against tonight’s visitors back in 2017 losing 2-1. Former Liverpool striker Christian Benteke scored two goals on the day. That defeat has triggered a 55 game unbeaten run at Anfield.

Palace should come into this game full of confidence winning their last four games, conceding zero goals in that time.

That good form has put Roy Hodgson’s side in contention for a European spot. The Eagles are only three points off 7th and four points off Manchester United in 5th.

Liverpool have won the last five games in the league between the two sides since that defeat in 2017.

The team news for Liverpool sees James Milner (hamstring) and Joel Matip (toe) pick up injures from the weekend and will miss this fixture.

The team news for Crystal Palace saw the away side come through their first game back with no fresh injury concerns. James Tomkins, Jeffrey Schlupp and Martin Kelly remain sidelined.
