Manchester City’s new signing can’t wait for ‘insane’ rivalry with Liverpool after 2022 Premier League title race

Erling Haaland

Manchester City forward Erling Haaland can’t wait to make his mark on the ‘insane’ rivalry between the two domestic juggernauts in Liverpool and City this season.

Haaland, 21, joined City from Borussia Dortmund this summer in one of the most high-profile signings in recent times in England.

The Reds retaliated with the signing of Benfica’s Darwin Nunez for a whopping £85m in the hope of firing them to the title.

Liverpool pushed City all the way to the final day of the season where a famous City comeback saw them run out as Premier League champions.

Haaland on the Rivalry

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Haaland claimed he’s been a big fan of the rivalry in England and is looking forward to making his mark.

“It’s been insane to see Klopp and Guardiola pushing each other, all the players, fans, everyone,” he said.

“To be outside watching this, everybody talking about it, pushing each other to the very last game — it’s not often that happens and I think it’s really good for England and also good for the clubs to push each other to reach the next level. It’s really important and it has been nice to watch.”

It’s clear the experiences of playing Liverpool previously for RB Salzburg have left a mark on the Norweigan striker.

Haaland continued: “It’s good that we push each other, that’s what we want. I like it a lot. I played against Liverpool when I was at Salzburg, I played against City with Dortmund and it’s nice and special.

“Everyone feels something special and that is something I live for in big games as well as the not-so-big games or whatever you want to call it. That’s something I like. I will try to bring a little bit of extra fire.”
