Liverpool’s £22.5M rated midfielder Naby Keita has shocked fans due to a highly conflicting report – what is going on?
The Reds were without Keita last night in the heavy 4-1 defeat to Napoli in the Champions League as their midfield faced more criticism.
The Guinean international has only managed five minutes of competitive action this season so far and the midfielder has entered the final year of his deal.
Now, he’s been ruled out for an unknown amount of time with a ‘serious hamstring injury‘ but he’s also been called up for international duty…
Naby Keita has been included in Guinea’s squad for the international break.
Something is going on that we don’t know about.

What is going on with Keita?
As reported by James Pearce at The Athletic, Jurgen Klopp had claimed that Keita has a serious hamstring injury and he has suffered injuries all season so far.
This is reflected in the total number of minutes played, as previously mentioned, as he suffered from illness and muscle problems.
However, reports are claiming he has been called up to the international squad, which has rightfully confused fans.
Helping to clear up the issue is the Liverpool ECHO who revealed the player will not feature in the games as he continues his rehabilitation. Guinea boss Kaba Diawara, though, believes Keita could be back in a fortnight.

“His situation is improving and he is even ahead of schedule,” he said. “We took a group of 24 players precisely to give him a chance to be able to count on him because he is a very important player for us, on and off the pitch, he is our captain.
“We are monitoring his situation very closely. We still have a little over two weeks before our first game. Chances are we could get him back by then.”
Keita is already in the final year of his deal and these consistent spells of inactivity will only hurt his chances of earning a new deal. There was even talk of a move back to RB Leipzig in the summer, with the German club interested in the deal.
We will have to wait and see what happens in the coming weeks, but the whole situation has been rather unusual, to say the least.
