11 days on and Liverpool are yet to confirm £29m Liverpool star’s injury timeline

Liverpool reported on the 28th of August that Roberto Firmino would undergo a scan on a suspected hamstring injury but there has been radio silence on the matter ever since.

The Brazilian was substituted before half-time against Chelsea, with Diogo Jota entering the fray in his place and at the time, it looked like a harsh substitution from Jurgen Klopp.

Firmino was having a poor game and Liverpool were 1-0 down at the time. A few minutes after Jota’s introduction, the game changed and the Reds won a penalty and levelled the score through Mohamed Salah’s spot-kick.

However, it was revealed after the game that Firmino was injured and not hauled off as it first appeared he was.

The Liverpool Echo’s Ian Doyle reported on the 31st of August that Firmino’s injury is not serious and he will only miss a couple of weeks while Paul Joyce reported the same.

This followed speculation on Twitter the night before that Firmino would be out for up to three months and while that’s uncorroborated and clearly wide of the mark, it does seem odd that Liverpool haven’t followed up their initial report on the injury with the results of his scan.

The club would normally discover the extent of the injury and either the player or the club would release the information but radio silence is odd and makes me wonder if the injury is perhaps a bit more serious than is being let on.

Supporters have been in hysterics recently over the club’s lack of signings, with a lack of depth upfront particularly worrying and a serious injury to Roberto Firmino only adds more weight to that argument.

Currently, Jurgen Klopp’s forward options are Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota and Divock Origi.

Takumi Minamino has picked up an injury while on international duty and while the severity is yet to be determined or released, it’s worrying that injuries are already mounting for the Reds.

The Champions League kicks off next week and the following week, an EFL Cup tie against Norwich City awaits so Liverpool really cannot afford to lose key players to injury this early in the season.
