A source close to Anfield Central can reveal that Liverpool are looking to complete a deal for Ibrahima Konate before the end of the season.
The RB Leipzig defender has a €40million (£34.1m) release clause and our sources report that with Jürgen Klopp looking to bolster his defensive options, Konate has been identified as the man to take his side forward.
The vultures are circling around the talented squad that Julian Nagelsmann has assembled, with Dayot Upamecano’s move to Bayern Munich made official this week.
Liverpool aren’t as close to signing Konate but there is the sense that a deal will be close to being agreed in the next couple of months.
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have been major losses for Liverpool while Joel Matip’s inability to remain fit has been disastrous for the Reds. Konate (21) is a thrilling prospect and standing at 6ft3, he’s a man-mountain even if he’s still shorter than van Dijk and Matip.
The word at Kirkby is that there is no doubt that Liverpool’s miracle worker and sporting director, Michael Edwards, will have no trouble arranging Konate’s transfer to the club in the summer.
Signing a player with Konate’s potential for below £35million will be another feather in Edwards’ cap after securing the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for similar fees in the past.
