Liverpool will not be signing Dayot Upamecano this month to fix their defensive crisis with RB Leipzig telling the Reds that they aren’t selling the Frenchman until the summer transfer window.
This is according to reliable sources close to Anfield Central. We have also had it confirmed that Upacemano will be allowed to leave in the summer if a club activates his €42million release clause.
We reported in November that Liverpool were not prepared to allow Takumi Minamino to join Leipzig as part of a deal for Upamecano despite the Bundesliga side tentatively being open to the idea.
Liverpool are in a treacherous position at the moment. Matip is in a race to be fit to face Manchester United in a key game in the Premier League title race and Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez remain sidelined with respective knee injuries.
Many supporters feel as though Jurgen Klopp is making a mistake by not signing a centre back this month.
The message from within the club has been consistent whenever we have been contacted with exclusive news: Klopp will not be pressured into making a signing he believes isn’t perfect for the club.
The German wants the right financial package and personnel and that currently isn’t the case. With clubs keenly aware of how desperate the Reds are, it seems virtually impossible to get a good deal over the line.
Liverpool will need to pray that Matip remains fit for the rest of the season and that Fabinho can avoid injury because the Brazilian has been a key figure at the back for the Reds.
