“From what I’m told”: Fabrizio Romano reports on Liverpool interest in £34.6M PSG baller

Vitinha

Fabrizio Romano has provided clarification on Liverpool’s interest in signing PSG midfielder Vitinha in the summer, stating the Reds only had eyes for Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham.

The 22-year-old joined PSG in the summer from Portuguese outfit Porto and he has been terrific for them so far.

This has led a number of Liverpool fans to ponder whether or not he was worth a gamble in the summer given how poor Jurgen Klopp’s midfield has been this season.

Against both Nottingham Forrest and Leeds United, Liverpool were outplayed in back-to-back games by two of the lowest-ranked Premier League teams this season.

While that’s the beauty of the Premier League (any team can lose on any day regardless of form, history or finances), it should never happen to a Liverpool side that, despite losing Sadio Mane in the summer and suffering an unprecedented number of injuries this term, almost won the quadruple last season.

Yet, signing Vitinha would not necessarily have solved Liverpool’s problems.

Speaking to Caught Offside, Fabrizio Romano revealed that there wasn’t even any interest from Liverpool to start with.

He revealed: “From what I’m told, Liverpool were never in talks to sign Vitinha. It was always PSG as Luis Campos wanted him as priority target.

“He’s very good player – but Liverpool wanted Tchouameni or Bellingham, no other players.”
