Liverpool could be keeping interest in £120m Premier League star a secret; he’d guarantee title win

LONDON, ENGLAND - JUNE 29: Harry Kane of England celebrates after scoring their side's second goal during the UEFA Euro 2020 Championship Round of 16 match between England and Germany at Wembley Stadium on June 29, 2021 in London, England.

Former Liverpool star Paul Stewart has admitted to being surprised that Harry Kane hasn’t been linked with a big-money move for Harry Kane.

Liverpool scored just 68 goals last season which is 17 fewer than when they won the Premier League title in 2020.

The Reds need to upgrade their attacking options and while it isn’t likely that Roberto Firmino would be replaced as he still has a lot to offer, doing so would be a smart move.

Relegating the Brazilian to first-choice backup and signing a clinical striker would be a major move from Liverpool but it’s virtually impossible to sign Harry Kane.

Kane wants to leave but is too expensive

In May, Sky Sports broke the news that Harry Kane wants to leave Tottenham this summer with Manchester City keen to take him to the Etihad.

Sky Sports report Paul Gilmour said at the time: “He is valued at well over £120m, probably, and the rest, if Spurs and Daniel Levy have anything to say about it because let’s face it, the ball is in their court.”

Signing the English forward would virtually guarantee Liverpool the 2021/22 Premier League title with Ibrahima Konate arriving and Virgil van Dijk returning from injury.

Kane was the only player to outscore Mohamed Salah last season as he won the Golden Boot. For club and country, he got 31 goals and 18 assists last term.

Paul Stewart surprised Liverpool not linked

Liverpool have not been linked with a move for Kane but that should not come as a surprise given that Manchester City are able to spend a lot more than the Merseysiders.

Speaking to Football Fancast, Stewart said he is surprised the Reds haven’t been mentioned as an interested party but says he thinks they could be keen.

“Surprised, very surprised I haven’t heard his name bandied at Liverpool,” the ex-Reds player said. “Do Liverpool keep their business quiet? Possibly, so for all we know there could be an interest there.

“Will they spend £100m? I’m not so sure they will. I’m not sure that their owners will spend £100m on a striker.”
