A report from Todo Fichajes claims that Ibrahima Konate is Liverpool’s ‘true obsession’ and that the Reds will do ‘everything possible to close his arrival.’
Liverpool are four points adrift of the Premier League’s top four which leaves their hopes of securing safe passage to next season’s Champions League in jeopardy.
Chelsea and West Ham are above them and so a battle will ensue to see who can finish the season in fourth place.
Todo Fichajes claims Liverpool’s summer transfer plans will be jeopardised by a failure to secure a place in next season’s Champions League. Konate’s move to Anfield is supposedly at risk if they miss out.
Konate, who is named as Liverpool’s ‘true obsession’, is viewed at RB Leipzig as the future best centre-back in the world and the Reds have done superbly to act fast in placing themselves at the front of the queue to sign him.
Standing at 1.94m, he is one of the strongest aerial defenders in Europe but is also rapid for a man his size. He has work to do before he reaches the levels that the likes of Virgil van Dijk operate at but he’s got heaps of potential.
He was on the pitch when Manchester United beat RBL 5-0 but he was playing on the right of a back three which is a role that he’s not comfortable with. His side beat the Red Devils 3-2 when he was in the middle of a central defensive trio where his strength in the air was more effective.
At Liverpool, he would most likely play in a back four which will test his ability to defend in 1 v 1 scenarios.
Jurgen Klopp relies on his centre-backs’ ability to face up against attackers on their own at times, with their fullbacks bombing forward in support of their more attacking teammates.
Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez have proven to be very good at this but it will be interesting to see how Konate, who is used to a more sheltered role at RB Leipzig, deals with the change in role.
