Liverpool are targeting specific areas of the squad ahead of the summer transfer window.
The reds have had a great season under Arne Slot. The Dutch coach has exceeded expectations in his first few months in charge. When Jurgen Klopp left the club last summer, no one gave Liverpool a chance to contend for trophies this season.
Slot has guided the reds to the top of the Premier League, seven points ahead of Arsenal. The gunners have suffered a huge blow in the title race after they lost Kai Havertz to injury for the rest of the season.
Liverpool can still win the treble this season; and the club have already booked a place in the League Cup final next month.

The reds could lose three of their best players in the summer. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are out of contract in the summer. Liverpool could lose the spine of their team in the next six months. Reports claim the club will be active in the upcoming window after a quiet January. Transfer decisions will be made based on who leaves the club. Multiple players have exits lined up after underwhelming performances this season.
Virgil Van Dijk recently rubbished rumours of a contract extension. Liverpool could lose their captain and best defender this summer. With Trent also linked with a move to Real Madrid, that could be two of the back four missing for next season.
Portuguese outlet Jornal de Noticias has reported that Liverpool are eyeing a double swoop this summer. Benfica duo Tomas Araujo and Alvaro Carreras are high on the list of potential targets. The report claims Liverpool would have to spend around €130million to sign the duo. Araujo has a release clause of €80million, while Carreras is available for €50million. Alvaro Carreras joined Manchester United as a 16-year old back in 2020. He spent four years before joining Benfica on a permanent deal last summer.
Defensive reinforcements really needed
Targeting this duo is a step in the right direction. Liverpool could lose two starters in defence before next season begins. Left back has been a weakness over the last year. Andrew Robertson has not been at his best, and has been targeted by opposing teams more frequently.
€130million is a steep price, but Araujo is 22-years old and Carreras is 21. Liverpool could have these two players as starters for the future.
