Liverpool to burn Bayern Munich competition for £50m defender

Virgil van Dijk is set to sign a new contract at Liverpool, but the Reds remain committed to bringing in a top centre-back in the summer. The Reds are even prepared to consider Jarell Quansah to make space in their squad for a new defender next season.

Arne Slot is committed towards revamping the forward line completely and surrounding Mo Salah with top young attackers to get the best out of him in the coming years.

However, Liverpool are also looking to bring in defensive reinforcements as the Reds are keen to have a Van Dijk replacement in the team even before the Dutchman leaves.

Ibrahima Konate is expected to sign a new contract despite negotiations not getting off to a good start, and the Reds want one more top young centre-back in the squad.

Liverpool to see off Bayern Munich competition in the chase for a defender

Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen has emerged as Liverpool’s top centre-back target ahead of the next summer transfer window. He has a £50m release clause, which makes the negotiations relatively straightforward.

Real Madrid have been interested in him, but they will prefer to sign the Spaniard next year when Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba will be leaving.

Bayern Munich have emerged as a potential destination for the defender this summer, but according to Sky Deutschland, he is not a priority for the German giants at the moment.

The Bavarians like the Spaniard, but they will only try to sign a centre-back this summer if they manage to sell a defender.

For the moment, Liverpool have a clear run at Huijsen with both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich having reasons for not pursuing him this summer.
