Liverpool tipped for spending spree in January

Liverpool sit at the summit of the Premier League table after 12 games. They have an eight-point lead over reigning champions Manchester City and that could extend to eleven by the end of the next round of league games this weekend.

With Manchester City suffering from an unprecedented run of bad form and Arsenal lacking consistency, Liverpool have emerged as the strong favourites to win the Premier League this season.

Arne Slot’s men have won ten of their 12 Premier League games and have dropped just five points so far. Their consistency has made them the strongest contenders to stop Manchester City from winning a fifth title in a row in May next year.

Liverpool fans are clamouring for new signings in the winter window to provide that extra push for the title but the Merseyside giants do not believe that they need reinforcements to sustain their challenge.

However, Liverpool are ready to act if a top target becomes available and they want to remain flexible and proactive to take advantage of market opportunities.

FSG should bring the title home by spending money in January – Former Everton chief executive

Liverpool are approaching the winter transfer window from a strong position and can afford to remain calm about bringing in players in the middle of the season.

However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness feels this is the time for Liverpool to drive home the advantage and deliver players to Slot in the winter window.

He is certain that the Liverpool manager will demand a few players given the injuries in the squad but stressed that given where they are at the table, this is the time for the club to act.

Wyness insisted that Liverpool can ensure that the Premier League arrives at Anfield in May if they can further strengthen the squad in the winter window.

“Liverpool have been able to read these injury problems well, but I do expect Arne Slot to talk to his sporting directors ahead of January”, Wyness said on the Insider Track podcast.

“They’ll decide what’s needed in terms of insurance policies for their bigger players or any strengthening which is required.

“When you’ve got an eight-point lead, they’ll be looking at it like a golfer – you want to play it safe and hit every green.

“It’s Liverpool’s to lose. They should be investing to bring it home because we all know what the Premier League title means.

“There will be room for Fenway to do that, and I think they will do it. It also increases the value of the club immensely, winning a title.”
