Liverpool suffer devastating blow to title chances

Liverpool sit second in the Premier League table after nine games and are looking like a real contender to win the league alongside Manchester City and Arsenal this season.

The Reds battled hard to earn a point from their trip to the Emirates against Arsenal on Sunday and believe that they are very much in the fight to win the Premier League under new manager Arne Slot.

Some observers do not believe that Liverpool have it in them to sustain a title challenge this season but so far, Slot’s team have defied expectations.

However, Liverpool are also mindful that they are a few injuries away from a crisis with the team already missing number one goalkeeper Alisson who will not return from his hamstring problem until next month.

It has been claimed that another key player is now expected to be out of action for longer than expected, delivering another serious blow to the club’s hopes of maintaining momentum in the coming weeks.

Liverpool star is out until after the November break

Diogo Jota missed the Champions League win over RB Leipzig and the 2-2 draw at Arsenal due to an injury but Liverpool were hopeful that he would return to the team soon.

However, those hopes have evaporated and Liverpool are set to be without the attacker’s services for a few more weeks.

According to The Athletic, the Portuguese forward will not be returning to action until after the international break in November.

Jota will be missing the big Premier League games against Brighton and Aston Villa and won’t be in the team for the Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen.

Arne Slot will hope the others step up in his absence

Jota is not a natural striker but Arne Slot has preferred him over the more expensive number 9 Darwin Nunez this season.

Nunez has started just two Premier League games this season but the Liverpool boss will now have to hang his hat on him for the next few weeks.

Can you name the club Liverpool signed these players from?

Dominik Szoboszlai

The Uruguayan scored against RB Leipzig last week in the Champions League and provided an assist in the 2-2 draw at Arsenal.

Slot will hope that Nunez steps up in a major way in the absence of Jota and provides the goals the Reds will need to keep the momentum in their season going.
