With the UEFA Champions League around the corner, top European clubs are finalising their squads for the most prestigious competition in continental football.
The Reds are no exceptions, as their website recently announced the submission of their own names for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League.
The list falls short, though, considering UEFA allows a total of 25 players for the List A squad. Liverpool, on the other hand, have proposed a 22-man squad to the continental organisation.
Despite a record-breaking summer transfer window, recent departures have hit the Merseysiders hard as they lack reliability in one of the most important positions on the pitch.
Homegrown centre back Jarell Quansah left for Bayer Leverkusen following a dip in opportunities under Dutch manager Arne Slot.
The deal closed for £30m plus performance-based add-ons that add up to £5m to the equation. Sources have also suggested that a buy-back clause is in the books.
Liverpool were evidently hopeful to find a senior defender before the transfer window closed on the 1st of September. One of the top candidates to improve depth in the back four was Marc Guéhi.
Unfortunately for the Newcastle captain, problems back home resulted in the move being blocked by his employers. A breakdown from Austrian gaffer Oliver Glasner followed after the failure to sign a replacement in Brighton and Hove Albion defender Igor Julio.

Arne Slot’s 22-man UEFA Champions League squad

The official Liverpool website lists the following players who Slot thought were worthy of the most prestigious continental competition in the world.
Alisson Becker, Conor Bradley, Hugo Ekitike, Wataru Endo, Jeremie Frimpong, Cody Gakpo, Joe Gomez, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexander Isak, Curtis Jones, Milos Kerkez, Ibrahima Konate, Giovanni Leoni, Alexis Mac Allister, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Rio Ngumoha, Andrew Robertson, Mohamed Salah, Dominik Szoboszlai, Virgil van Dijk, Florian Wirtz, Freddie Woodman.
The official website also talks about List B, which clubs must submit on the eve of each fixture. However, UEFA has some tight regulations for the same:
“A player may be registered on List B if he is born on or after 1 January 2004 and has, since his 15th birthday, been eligible to play for the club concerned for any uninterrupted period of two years, or a total of three consecutive years with a maximum of one loan period to a club from the same association for a period not longer than one year.”
“Players aged 16 may be registered on List B if they have been registered with the participating club for the previous two years without interruption.”
