Liverpool stunned as Newcastle United steal £46m England star

Liverpool have certain priorities ahead of the summer transfer window. Arne Slot wants a centre-back, a left-back and a striker before the start of next season. However, the Reds are struggling to bring in players for a couple of those positions at this stage.

Sporting director Richard Hughes has been working on several deals and is set to deliver the club’s first signing before their final game of the season at Anfield against Crystal Palace.

However, their pursuit of a striker has stalled as Newcastle United are hell-bent on not selling Alexander Isak, and their top defensive target Dean Huijsen is set to join Real Madrid this summer.

Liverpool are keen to sort out a few deals soon, but Newcastle are again thwarting their plans by stealing a march in the race to sign a top player.

Newcastle are not giving up on a long-term Anfield target

Marc Guehi has been a long-term target for Liverpool, but the club are keen to push for his signature this summer after missing out on Huijsen.

However, according to TEAMTalk, Newcastle are maintaining a stranglehold in the race to sign the Crystal Palace defender this summer.

They failed with multiple bids for him, and have not given up on signing a player who is seen as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

Chelsea and Nottingham Forest are also interested in Guehi, but Newcastle have leapfrogged everyone in their pursuit of the centre-back this summer.

They are in constant touch with his representatives and are determined to succeed in signing him in the upcoming transfer window.

Newcastle are also aware that Palace cannot be as dogged as last summer, as Guehi only has a year left on his contract.

The Eagles are ready to accept offers in the region of £40m to £46m in the summer transfer window.
