Liverpool and Manchester United are in the market for a top-class striker, and are more or less shopping the same shallow pool of forwards. However, the Red Devils’ daring offer of a swap deal is set to threaten Liverpool’s plans of signing a number 9.
The Merseyside giants went into the market knowing that signing a striker would be pivotal to improving Arne Slot’s squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.
They are set to pull off a stunning signing in the form of Florian Wirtz, but the German is not a number 9 and the club are still nowhere close to signing a forward.
The delay in selling Darwin Nunez is a problem, and Liverpool could see more heartbreak as a top striker target could end up joining Manchester United in the ongoing transfer window.

Manchester United to offer a swap to beat Liverpool to a top target’s signature

Victor Osimhen’s decision to turn down Al Hilal for a move in the ongoing transfer window has jolted his Premier League suitors into action in the last few days.
He will leave Napoli this summer, and Liverpool are now keen to try and get their hands on him after holding talks with his representatives earlier in the window.
However, according to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, Manchester United are set to hijack the move with a bold offer for Napoli.
It has been claimed the Red Devils are prepared to offer Napoli Joshua Zirkzee as part of a deal to take Osimhen to Old Trafford in the ongoing transfer window.
The Serie A champions had their eyes on the Dutchman when he moved to Manchester United last summer, and could again be keen to sign him a year later.
Napoli want in excess of £63m to sell Osimhen, but Manchester United are trying to bring down that figure through Zirkzee’s inclusion.
