Liverpool are in the market for a number 9, and signing a striker is one of the biggest priorities for sporting director Richard Hughes. Arne Slot wants a new man up front next season, but Manchester United are set to pose a real problem for the Reds.
The striker market is not the biggest, as there are only a handful of forwards who are good enough to come in and make an instant impact in a Liverpool shirt.
Liverpool are not the only big Premier League club in the market for a forward, and they are expected to face competition for the signature of any striker they go for this summer.
Manchester United are one more club who need a proven goalscorer up front, and they are now hijacking Liverpool’s pursuit of a world-class striker in the upcoming window.

Manchester United hold talks with top Reds target

Victor Osimhen will be one of the sought-after strikers this summer when Napoli are expected to sell him once he returns from his loan spell at Galatasaray.
He has scored 33 times in all competitions, and Liverpool are expected to hold talks with his representatives soon to discuss a deal to take him to Anfield.
However, according to Foot Mercato, Manchester United have stolen a march on Liverpool in the race to sign the Nigerian in the upcoming summer transfer window.
They held talks with the player’s camp on Monday to discuss the possibility of taking him to Old Trafford in the coming months.
A deal is not done, but Manchester United have made the early move and are trying to convince the forward to join them this summer.
They believe Osimhen is the proven goalscorer Manchester United need to solve their goalscoring woes next season.
The forward wants a contract worth more than £10m per year before agreeing to join any club this summer.
