Liverpool do not want to stand still in the summer transfer window as they push towards strengthening the club’s title-winning squad. The Reds are in the market for a top number 9, but they are set to face serious competition from their rivals, Arsenal.
Arne Slot wants to sign a new striker as he has lost faith in Darwin Nunez, who is expected to move on from Anfield in the upcoming transfer window.
Liverpool’s priority target has always been Alexander Isak, but it is becoming increasingly clear that Newcastle United are hell-bent on holding on to the Swede this summer.
They are looking at other striker alternatives as well, but Arsenal have made an early move on one of their other top targets ahead of the summer window.

Liverpool face Arsenal hijack in pursuit of striker

Viktor Gyokeres is set to leave Sporting Lisbon and is almost certain to return to England, where he previously played at Coventry City.
Liverpool have identified him as a top target and are putting plans in place to make an offer for the attacker in the upcoming summer transfer window.
However, according to El Nacional, Arsenal have already made a move to try and sign Gyokeres ahead of their other Premier League rivals, ahead of next season.
It has been claimed that the Gunners have tabled an initial offer of £51.1m, but that is not likely to be nearly enough to sign him.
He has a £85.2m release clause, and only a figure close to that figure would be considered before Sporting agree to sell the striker this summer.
Gyokeres has taken Portuguese football by storm since leaving Coventry and has scored 52 times in all competitions this season.
Liverpool are still very much alive in the race for him, but Arsenal have taken the first step towards signing the striker.
