The Merseyside giants are aiming to spend big money to bring in first-team-ready players this summer. However, they are also on the lookout for young talent, and Liverpool are ready to beat Newcastle United in the race to sign a top-tier wonderkid in the ongoing transfer window.
Liverpool’s pursuit of Florian Wirtz this summer is a sign of the ambition and intent the club have shown to improve a squad that won the Premier League title last season.
The Reds have also signed Jeremie Frimpong as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement, and are on the cusp of getting a deal done to sign Milos Kerkez this summer.
However, sporting director Richard Hughes wants to invest in young players, and Liverpool have a wonderkid on their sights who is also a target for Newcastle in the ongoing transfer window.

Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal is considered one of the top young emerging centre-backs in football, and a few top clubs are circling him.
Newcastle United are among the clubs who have moved early for the young defender, and have already met the youngster and his representatives.
However, according to French outlet Le360 Sport, Liverpool have made a concrete offer to sign the young defender from Rennes in the ongoing transfer window.
The size of the offer is unclear, but the Reds are keen to sign Boudlal and are ready to beat Newcastle to his signature this summer.
Nice and two unnamed Spanish clubs are also in the race to sign Boudlal, who made nine league appearances on loan at Amiens last season.
Liverpool rate the Moroccan highly and believe he is one of the top young defensive talents in European football.
