Liverpool striker reacts to teenage sensation’s contract renewal

Hugo Ekitike Rio Ngumoha Liverpool contract

Rio Ngumoha recently signed his first professional contract with Liverpool. Following a sensational rise to the senior team, the Englishman is looking forward to probably three more years with the Reds.

Ngumoha made his Liverpool first-team debut against Accrington Stanley in an FA Cup fixture. Despite not scoring a debut goal, the winger did impress with his potential overall on the field.

The breakthrough came when Rio made his Premier League debut this season against Newcastle United. The Reds were back off a 4-2 win against Bournemouth in their first league game of the season.

However, Slot’s men were struggling against the Magpies despite having a one-goal lead till the 88th minute. Unfortunately, William Osula pulled one back for the Tyneside outfit, and both clubs were left battling a stalemate.

Ngumoha was brought in at the 96th minute, and Slot will never regret trusting the 17-year-old at the moment. What followed was a dream debut as the Englishman scored the winning goal in the 100th minute of the game to help Liverpool not miss out on the three points.

After signing his first professional contract for Liverpool, the footballer has received various responses from his teammates. Hugo Ekitike’s was a curious one as the Frenchman commented “Star boy” under the announcement post.

The extension was first announced when Liverpool and Rio Ngumoha made a collaboration post on Instagram. “Rio Ngumoha has signed his first professional contract with Liverpool FC ✍️ Congratulations, Rio 👏”, the post read.

After his Premier League debut, the Englishman went on to make his UEFA Champions League debut against Atlético de Madrid.

Ngumoha speaks after his debut goal

Rio became the youngest Liverpool debutant in a European competition that night when he played against Atlético de Madrid. He was 17 years and 19 days old that night.

The winger also showed great enthusiasm and humbleness after his first goal for Liverpool. Mohamed Salah also had a few pointers for the winger as the Egyptian was trying to ground the Englishman.

“The fans, I heard them screaming my name, and that’s a sensational moment, I would say. But you can’t get too carried away with all the noise, like I said, because at the end of the day, I probably do that finish 100 times on the training ground, so it’s no different with the fans. But obviously, the fans backing you there, it’s just crazy”, Rio told the press.
