Throughout Liverpool’s recent dominance under Jurgen Klopp, several players emerged as world-class talents, helping the Reds re-establish themselves as one of Europe’s elite teams.
Among them is Andy Robertson, a player who, despite often being overshadowed by his more high-profile teammates, has cemented his status as one of the Premier League’s best fullbacks.
During Liverpool’s incredible 2019 season, the club boasted seven Ballon d’Or nominees, with stars like Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Alisson Becker receiving recognition.
However, many felt there should have been an eighth name on that list: Andy Robertson.
The Scottish left-back has been a vital cog in Liverpool’s machine since arriving in 2017, contributing significantly to their success while maintaining an understated presence in world football.
Andy Robertson: “Best Left-Back in the World”
Though Robertson has been a consistent performer, he’s often flown under the radar compared to the likes of van Dijk or Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Yet, his tireless work ethic, tactical intelligence, and combative nature have made him a critical figure in Liverpool’s resurgence.
Now, it seems his excellence is finally being acknowledged by those within the game.

Real Betis left-back Romain Perraud recently singled out Robertson, calling him the best left-back in the world.
Speaking to El Correo de Andalucia, Perraud expressed his admiration for Liverpool’s No. 26.
“For the last four or five years, I think the best left-back in the world is Liverpool’s Robertson,” said Perraud, who has long studied the Scottish international’s play. “When I have time, it’s important for me to see his ability to play in this position. It’s a very, very good example.”
Perraud’s praise is a reflection of the high regard in which Robertson is held by his peers. Known for his relentless energy, precise crosses, and defensive resilience, Robertson has been a consistent force on the left flank, delivering top performances season after season.
Robertson’s longevity and what’s next
Despite being 30, Robertson shows no signs of slowing down. While Liverpool have been linked with younger replacements like Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri, the Scotland captain continues to prove his value to the team.

His current contract runs until 2026, giving Liverpool ample time to consider a succession plan. However, with Robertson still delivering high-level performances, it’s clear that he remains an integral part of Klopp’s side.
Though injuries have troubled him recently, Robertson’s ability to bounce back and maintain his high standards speaks to his resilience.
Perraud’s glowing assessment serves as a reminder that Liverpool have a truly special player in Robertson—one who has been pivotal to their success and still has plenty left to offer.
As Liverpool’s focus inevitably shifts to securing the futures of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, they mustn’t overlook Robertson. His contributions may not always steal the headlines, but they have been instrumental in Liverpool’s ascent to the top, and the veteran left-back still has a significant role to play in the club’s future.
