Liverpool star ruled out for three months with another midfielder waiting on scans on “unspecified issue”

Jürgen Klopp's decision to join Red Bull has sparked major controversies

Liverpool are currently sweating on the fitness of two midfielders ahead of the new season.

The Reds neglected to strengthen their midfield amid reports linking them with Jude Bellingham.

With a long season last year playing the maximum games available to the club, injuries could be a factor this season – especially with a World Cup in the winter.

News of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones sustaining injuries before the season isn’t exactly ideal.

Latest reports on injuries

The Reds currently have Calvin Ramsey, Caoimhin Kelleher and Diogo Jota sidelined but now they have two more to contend with.

Oxlade-Chamberlain had gone down injured in their pre-season game against Crystal Palace and has now been confirmed to be injured for a ‘number of months’.

Earlier in the window, West Ham were linked with a move for the midfielder, who’s now 28 and found himself down the pecking order at Liverpool.

For Jones, the injury comes at the wrong time given the addition of Fabio Carvalho and the pre-season form of Elliott.

It could see him fall lower down the list if he is to be ruled out for months. But could it see Liverpool move for a midfielder before the end of the window?

They have been heavily linked with Matheus Nunes as well as Bellingham but the injuries could force Liverpool’s hand in the market.
