Liverpool star opens up on Arne Slot’s tactics

New Liverpool gaffer Arne Slot has enjoyed a great start to the season this year

Six wins and one loss later, Liverpool sit atop the Premier League under new manager Arne Slot. In total, The Reds have won nine matches out of 10 so far this season.

Arne Slot was appointed manager following the departure of club legend and fan favourite Jürgen Klopp. The German manager was probably the best in world football at the peak of his powers.

Although Klopp announced a one-year break from football, the former Liverpool gaffer recently signed to be the head of football at Red Bull. The fans seemed furious at this decision as Klopp had promised to not work for any other English football club.

Red Bull recently invested in Leeds United and Klopp will also be responsible for overseeing the West Yorkshire club’s workings. This has been deemed a betrayal by many Liverpool fans.

Betrayal or not the Stuttgart native has been one of the most influential figures at Anfield in recent times. His style of football and management not only brought style but also got the results that the Kopites had missed for a long time.

Arne Slot has also successfully managed to mix the two up until now. The Reds also possess the best defence in the league despite being a high-line playing team.

In talks with Premier League Uncut, Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk opened up on Arne Slot’s tactics and how the players have adapted to the change.

It’s going to be a long season, we have so many games left [and] players are getting used to the demands of the new coach. But in terms of changes tactically or any of that, there’s not [been] major changes.

Most of the attacking modern-day coaches’ tactics stem back to Total Football, a system first developed by Dutch footballer and manager Rinus Michels.

Jürgen Klopp and Arne Slot are no exceptions to this influence. Stemming from the same system, the transition has been smooth for the Liverpool players as mentioned by VVD.

There are different demands but the foundation remains the same. Minor changes have been the norm and no major overhaul has been seen at Anfield.

Obviously he has his principles and he has his values and what he wants from us, but we’re learning and we keep going.
