Liverpool signing Kylian Mbappe is going to be complicated, says Fabrizio Romano, as one of the most highly anticipated transfer sagas shapes up over the next six months.

The French forward is out of contract with PSG in six months’ time and is now free to negotiate with Liverpool and other clubs like Real Madrid, who are considered to be the overwhelming favourites to land Mbappe.

This week, the young star admitted that he loves to watch Mohamed Salah which is no real indication of anything on the transfer front but it would be amazing to see them play together under Jurgen Klopp.

He said: “He is one of the best players in the world. I love to watch him play, he scores a lot of goals for Liverpool and he makes the difference.”

Combined, they have 37 goals and 24 assists which would be enough to power some Premier League teams for a full season.

Interestingly, Liverpool made a real push to sign Mbappe when he was leaving AS Monaco and John Henry even took him on his private jet for two hours and so surely there can be something the club can do to sign him now he’s going to be available as a free agent.

What are Liverpool’s chances of signing him for free? #Mbappe2022?

Pretty low and that’s without even referring to Fabrizio Romano. It’s going to be a very expensive transfer to pull off even without a fee as he will be a free agent in June.

Romano told Anfield Watch: “I think it’s gonna be complicated, to be honest.

“Never say never because after last summer with Messi and Ronaldo anything can happen. But at the moment, I think what Klopp has always said is that Liverpool financially are not able to do it.”

Mbappe already earns £413,000 per week which is a wage that FSG are refusing to pay Mohamed Salah at present.

Romano continued: “They know that there are clubs that have been working on it for a while like Real Madrid. So my expectation is for him to sign a new contract with PSG or join Real Madrid.

“He is tempted by Madrid, but PSG are pressing him to extend the contract. So at the moment, the situation is that it’s going to be complicated for Liverpool.

“I’d like to see English clubs jumping into the negotiations because it would be the biggest transfer race in the history of football but at the moment it is quiet for Liverpool.”
