With Barcelona looking to reduce their wage bill, Liverpool should make a surprise move to sign Frenkie de Jong.
The Dutchman is a special footballer and while he is valued at £81million by Transfermarkt, Barca are in a dire financial situation and you never know what they might consider.
Just two years after paying £107m Atletico Madrid to sign Antoine Griezmann, Barcelona are trying to get rid of him as his reported £594,000/week wages are bankrupting them.
So if Barcelona are ready to accept a massive loss on Griezmann, why would they not be willing to cash in on Frenkie de Jong?

Liverpool historically do not make marquee signings if they do not generate the funds from sales as they did to sign van Virgil van Dijk and Alisson by selling Phil Coutinho to none other than Barcelona.
But, as Melissa Reddy told Sport1, Liverpool have been saving funds in the event that the opportunity to sign a ‘difference maker’ presents itself and de Jong is certainly one such player.
The 24-year-old has the potential to develop into the best Premier League midfielder under Jurgen Klopp’s guidance but would be more expensive than Saul and Renato Sanches combined.
That said, he’s younger than Saul and he’s better than Sanches so it’s a deal that makes sense for Liverpool to pursue if Klopp wants de Jong.

While signing someone like de Jong would be exciting, I actually believe Liverpool can win the league again this season without any new signings.
That’s only if they avoid any injuries and last season will serve as a cautionary tale to Klopp about what happens if you fail to strengthen your squad.
