Liverpool set to spend £90m on Bundesliga star?

Liverpool and Arne Slot missed out on César Huerta in the last moments of the transfer

Liverpool have ideas for the upcoming transfer windows but are aware that they would need to make a big splash in the market next summer if they lose some of their star players.

The noise surrounding the future of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold is becoming deafening as the club look to get some clarification from the three players.

Van Dijk has remained non-committal on signing a new deal, Salah has kept his counsel and it seems Trent Alexander-Arnold is likely to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.

Liverpool are aware that losing even one of those star names could bring heat from the fans and they would need to respond in the market by spending big money on a player or two at the end of the season.

The Reds are working on creating a shortlist of players they could target next summer to improve the squad and Florian Wirtz is one of the players the club are tracking.

A move for Wirtz would cost Liverpool

The German midfielder decided against leaving Bayer Leverkusen last summer but is almost certain to move on from the Bundesliga champions next year.

Bayern Munich, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Manchester City are among the clubs who are interested in getting their hands on the attacking midfielder.

Wirtz is also on Liverpool’s radar but any move for him would be costly for his suitors next summer.

According to TEAMtalk a bid of at least £90m will be required for Leverkusen to even consider selling Wirtz at the end of the season.

Can you name the club Liverpool signed these players from?

With some of the biggest clubs in Europe chasing him, Leverkusen are confident that they can get the fee they want for him.

Wirtz has not made a decision on his next club yet and his suitors will present offers to his representatives over the course of the next few months.

The race to sign him will gather pace and heat in the coming months as clubs look to jostle to find an edge in the chase for Wirtz.

Spending £90m on one of the most exciting young attacking midfielders would be a good way to win back the fans for the Liverpool hierarchy if they lose one or two star players next summer.
