Why reports of a new deal for Ibrahima Konate is great news for Liverpool

Liverpool have been in negotiations over a new deal with three key players – Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah – but there is still no agreement over fresh terms with none of the three players. The talks have dragged on for months but it seems they have made progress over a new contract with another player.

The negotiations with the three stalwarts have dominated the headlines but Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has been dealing with agreeing on a new deal with a few other players.

Andy Robertson’s future at Anfield has been under the scanner but the club are considering offering him a new contract at the end of the season.

Liverpool have also been looking at contracts of players who will be entering the final years of their respective deals next summer and the club have been keen to sort out fresh terms for the ones they are keen to hold on to.

Ibrahima Konate is among the players who Liverpool are keen to hold on to and his representatives have been in talks with the Merseyside giants over the last few months.

The club are in the final stages of negotiations with Konate

The Frenchman has enjoyed life under new manager Arne Slot and has been a massive player for Liverpool this season after a frustrating few years on Merseyside.

He suffered a knee injury recently, which is set to keep him on the sidelines for a considerable length of time but that has done nothing to derail the new contract talks.

Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?

Liverpool do not want him to enter the final year of his current deal next summer and according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, the negotiations are at an advanced stage.

He said on his YouTube channel: “I can say that with Konate the conversation is at the final stages.

“So agreement almost done, Konate expected to extend his contract at Liverpool.

“The club are very happy with the player. He’s injured now but in general, they are very happy with his performances and professionalism.”

Liverpool are also making progress in talks over new deals for Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk but Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future remains uncertain.
