Liverpool set to sign La Liga star

Liverpool are shaping their transfer plans for the upcoming transfer windows with the club expected to sign a defensive midfielder in the January transfer window.

However, the Reds are plotting for next summer with several of their major players in the final year of their respective contracts and could move on at the end of the season.

Liverpool want to hold on to Trent Alexander-Arnold who is one of the players whose contract is running out but so far, there is no agreement over a new deal between the two camps.

The Reds are desperate to keep him but the club are working on replacements and several players have been on their radar as they prepare for the potential departure of the 26-year-old right-back.

With Alexander-Arnold linked with a move to Real Madrid, Liverpool are also looking to shop in Spain to source a potential replacement for the England star.

According to a report in Spain cited by Football365, Celta Vigo right-back Oscar Mingueza has emerged as a key target for the club.

Liverpool set to beat Barcelona to his signature

The 25-year-old Spaniard is a product of the Barcelona academy and moved to Celta Vigo on a free transfer in 2022.

The right-back has been impressive for the Spanish side over the last couple of seasons and it has been claimed that Liverpool are closing in on signing him.

He also has a €20m release clause in his contract and Liverpool are keen to snap him up as a potential replacement for Alexander-Arnold.

Barcelona are keen to take him back to the Nou Camp but Liverpool have the edge in the race and are pushing to secure a deal.

It is unclear whether Liverpool are keen to have him in January or want to wait until the summer.

Mingueza has appeared 73 times for Celta Vigo since joining them in 2022 and is a key player in Claudio Giraldez’s team.

His performances in Spain have made him one of the best full-backs in La Liga and he has played for the national team.

He has only one cap for Spain but a move to Liverpool and playing in the Premier League is likely to shine the spotlight on him.
