Liverpool are in the market for a centre-back, and the club have been considering several options ahead of the summer transfer window. It appears a top Bundesliga defender has emerged as the number one target for the Merseyside giants ahead of the end of the season.
Signing a centre-back is one of the priorities for Liverpool going into the summer window, and the club have been looking at several defenders as potential options.
Dean Huijsen was the top target for months, but the defender has opted to join Real Madrid, who have a deal in place to sign him from Bournemouth at the end of the season.
Liverpool’s recruitment team have continued to assess options, and it seems a Bundesliga defender is now a favourite to move to Anfield this summer.

The Reds are to sign a top defender from Germany

Liverpool are looking to bring in a left-sided centre-back to partner Virgil van Dijk, and losing out on Huijsen has been a major blow to the club.
However, sporting director Richard Hughes has quickly turned his attention towards other targets, and according to Fichajes, Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie is the top target now.
The Reds are set to sign Jeremie Frimpong from Leverkusen, and are also pushing to sign Florian Wirtz.
Hincapie could be the third player this summer who could end up leaving Leverkusen for Liverpool if things go according to plan.
The Reds admire the 23-year-old centre-back and the physicality he will bring to the defensive line if he moves to Anfield this summer.
He has a contract until 2029, and it would take a huge bid to convince Leverkusen to sell Hincapie, given they are also set to lose Jonathan Tah on a free transfer.
However, the Reds are keen, and more talks are scheduled to take place in the coming weeks to formalise their interest in the centre-back.
