Liverpool set to pull off stunning late move for ‘best striker in the world’

Liverpool are in the market for a number 9, and the club expect to direct major funds towards bringing in a top striker in the ongoing transfer window. The Reds have been tipped to land ‘the best striker’ in the world later in the summer if things go according to plan.

The Merseyside giants are already in line to spend a club-record fee to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, and have snapped up Jeremie Frimpong in a £30m deal.

Liverpool are also closing in on a deal to sign Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for a fee worth £42m, but signing a top striker remains the club’s biggest agenda in the ongoing transfer window.

The striker market is saturated due to most top teams needing a top goalscorer, and major funds will be needed if Liverpool want to sign a proven goalscorer.

The Reds are ‘keeping their powder dry’ for the ‘best striker in the world’

Newcastle United have made it clear that Alexander Isak is not for sale, but Liverpool have not given up on the prospect of signing him.

He is still their number one target, and Graeme Bailey said on TBR Football that the contract negotiations between Isak and Newcastle are going to decide his fate.

He believes Newcastle will have to put money where their mouth is and smash their wage structure if they want to hold on to the Swede this summer.

The journalist insisted that Liverpool are keeping their powder dry and have the funds to sign both Isak and Wirtz if the Newcastle striker becomes available later in the summer.

“People aren’t talking about Alexander Isak at the moment. He is still going to be the big story this summer”, Bailey told TBR Football.

“He really is. This new contract has to be done. Newcastle do have him under contract for more than one year, but we know that’s not how modern football works. Alexander Isak, as of now, is on less than Callum Wilson.

“Newcastle purport, and whether you agree with them or not. They think Isak’s the best striker in the world. Okay, well, you have to pay him as such.

“So, go to Newcastle’s current highest earner, I think Bruno’s around 150k. They’re willing to go to 200k. Are they willing to go to 250k? I’m not entirely convinced they are. I think they’ll need to. If they don’t, and if it comes out that Isak has rejected the contract, it’s really all going to kick off.

“Liverpool are keeping their power dry, right? Liverpool still see him as their dream signing, and there’s a reason that Liverpool aren’t really going overboard in the striker one.

“100% 100% [they can sign both Wirtz and Isak]. Liverpool were in for a mega summer. They’ve got the funds and the resources there to do both deals. Just look at the potential sales: Kelleher, Nunez, Jota, Chiesa, those four alone could cover the Wirtz fee, and they already had a significant war chest set aside for a striker.”
