Liverpool rocked by transfer bombshell dropped by £36m star

Liverpool have made some brilliant moves in the transfer window, but they need to be careful about keeping their own flock together. A top Red has spoken about his long-term future at the club and refused to provide any guarantees that he will be staying.

Sporting director Richard Hughes has done a brilliant job in ensuring the Reds are in a position to snap up their top target even before the transfer window gets going.

They have a deal in place to sign Jeremie Frimpong, and Liverpool hope to secure a deal to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in the coming days.

However, Liverpool are facing the threat of losing a top star due to his contract situation, and the player has done little to assure the club and the fans with his public comments.

‘Progress? Not really’ – A Reds star provides worrying update on contract talks

Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation has emerged as a headache for Liverpool as he only has 12 months left on his contract with the club.

Paris Saint-Germain are interested in taking him back to his hometown club, and Real Madrid have encouraged him to run down his deal and join them on a free transfer next year.

Liverpool have been in talks with his representatives over a new deal, but it emerged last month that zero progress had been made in the negotiations.

Konate has also confirmed that there has been little to no progress in the talks, but stressed that he is not going to reveal what he has heard from his agent.

“Progressing? Not really”, Konate was quoted as saying by the Guardian.

“My agent met the club last week, but I don’t know what will happen. I cannot say what my agent said to me, but yeah, we will see what will happen.”
