Liverpool want to be proactive in the transfer market, and there are signs of them being bolder in their approach after winning the Premier League. However, Tottenham are set to throw a wrench in their plans to sign a top England star this summer.
Sporting director Richard Hughes has already made moves in the market, which have shocked everyone, including his pursuit of Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.
However, the Liverpool dealmaker still has a few priorities in the market and signing a centre-back remains one of the key goals for the upcoming transfer window.
Their pursuit of a centre-back has not gone according to plan, and it seems one more target could move to a Premier League rival in the summer.

Tottenham are confident of signing a top defender wanted at Anfield

Liverpool have been considering rekindling their interest in Marc Guehi after losing out on Dean Huijsen, who joined Real Madrid this summer.
Newcastle United appear to be confident of signing him after failing last year, but Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish does not want to sell him to the Magpies.
However, according to GiveMeSport, Tottenham have barged into the race to sign the England centre-back, and believe they are frontrunners to sign him.
Spurs qualified for the Champions League after winning the Europa League, and they are sure that they can convince the defender to move to North London.
Guehi is open to listening to the offer from Tottenham during a summer when he is almost certain to leave Crystal Palace.
Manchester United have also made enquiries, but they cannot offer him any European football to Guehi, which is a key consideration for him.
Palace are likely to sell if they receive an offer in the region of £40m this summer.
