Liverpool reportedly keeping an eye on Kylian Mbappe contract situation at PSG

French publication L’Equipe are reporting that Liverpool are keeping tabs on the situation unfolding between Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain.

Jurgen Klopp has been a huge fan of the French forward for some time. In fact, the former Borussia Dortmund manager has had his eyes on Mbappe since 2016 but couldn’t sign him due to the finances involved.

Things are different now though. Mbappe could force PSG into a summer sale this year or leave the following season for free. Either way, it appears as though the 22-year-old will leave the club sometime soon.

With his contract set to expire in just under 17 months, PSG will be stressed about what to do. For the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid, this could be the time to pounce and if we are to believe L’Equipe, Klopp and co. are watching with interest from afar.

The Reds have been struggling in the final third ever since their 7-0 rout at Selhurst Park the week before Christmas. The issue has been to do with creativity but signing someone of Mbappe’s class is a guarantee of goals.

Despite only being 22, he has a career haul of 131 goals. That’s not to mention his 74 assists. This has all come in just 203 games which averages out to almost exactly a goal or assist per game.

Liverpool signing Mbappe would be the biggest transfer in Premier League history. His talent is astronomical and his career has barely even begun.

A summer move in 2021 would cost a fortune even despite his contract situation. A move in 2022 would, however, be far more feasible.
