Liverpool release Nike 2020/21 home kit

Liverpool have today revealed the new 2020/21 home kit, made by Nike.

It is the first kit of the partnership between the pair of iconic sports brands and it has not failed to deliver.

With the coronavirus pandemic causing football to go on an enforced break, Nike allowed Liverpool to delay their deal until August 1. This enabled Liverpool to win the league title in their New Balance kits of the 2019/20 season.

Captain Jordan Henderson will hope to lift more silverware in this kit. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED BY GOAL.

This Nike deal must be seen as a step up for Liverpool, as they are arguably the biggest and most iconic sportswear manufacturers on earth.

Stars like LeBron James and Drake have been tipped to help transform Liverpool into a popular worldwide brand, similar to teams like the New York Yankees.

The Kit

The kit was revealed early this morning on Liverpool’s social media platforms.

Nike athletes such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Virgil van Dijk and Jordan Henderson featured in a hilarious unboxing video, in which the players modelled and praised the shirt.

The kit is, of course, the traditional red, but with added teal and white accents on the collar and sleeve cuffs. It also features a white stripe on both sides.

The main shirt sponsor is Standard Chartered.

The crest, Nike logo and sponsor are all white.

The top of the back of the shirt once again features the 96 emblem. This sits between the eternal flames, in memory of those who lost their lives in the Hillsborough disaster.

Teal is a colour that has not featured on a Liverpool home kit since the 1993-1995 design. It is, however, a colour closely related to the club and the city of Liverpool, and has historically featured on the club crest.

The goalkeeper kit was also released. It is an all-black kit, with the 2020/21 Nike goalkeeper template design.

Both kits will go on sale on August 6.

They are available to pre-order now on store.liverpoolfc.com.

The Verdict

While some fans may not be happy, the kit is a very solid showing from Nike.

The green is a welcome addition, and the collar is beautiful.

It is also good to see a darker shade of red, similar to the New Balance ones.

It is loosely based on the 1993/95 Adidas kit, which is one of the most underrated in Liverpool history.

Nike have years left on the deal and will produce numerous more home shirts. There is only so much room to mess with the design.

After all, simply having the Nike logo is always a major plus.

With the away and third strips still to come, this Liverpool and Nike link-up is incredibly exciting for fans of football fashion.

Add to this the upcoming Liverpool training gear and streetwear.

Bank accounts are sure to take big hits all around the world in the coming weeks.
