Trent Alexander-Arnold has been excellent for Liverpool on the pitch this season. However, speculation over his future at Anfield has dominated headlines while he has continued to be a massive player for the club.
The question marks over his future will continue to hover around Anfield as long as he doesn’t sign a new contract or communicates his decision to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Real Madrid are lying in wait and have already offered him a mega-deal ahead of an expected formal approach to him in January when the defender will be free to discuss a pre-contract with clubs outside England.
Liverpool are still pushing to convince him to sign a new deal but some voices are already urging Liverpool to sell him in the winter window if he doesn’t want to agree to a fresh long-term contract.
The Merseyside giants are unlikely to want to give up on him yet but there are immediate concerns about his fitness as he did pick up a knock in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday night.
The Trent Alexander-Arnold injury status
It emerged recently that the defender was playing with an injury since the last international break but the club received a bigger scare against Aston Villa.
Alexander-Arnold had to be taken off midway through the first half after he picked up a hamstring injury and the club feared that he could be out for a significant period.
However, according to The Athletic, the injury is not as severe as previously anticipated and it is just a minor problem at the moment.
He won’t be involved in England’s Nations League games against Greece and Republic of Ireland but has not been ruled out for Liverpool’s next game after the international break.
Can you name the club Liverpool sold these players to?
It has been claimed that Liverpool’s prompt decision to take him off in the win over Villa has limited any damage to the hamstring muscle of the player.
As things stand, Alexander-Arnold will recover from the injury and be available for Liverpool’s clash against Southampton on November 24.
This will be a major relief for Arne Slot who is desperate to make sure that his best players are available for a busy run of games after the final international break of 2024.
