Liverpool ready to sign defender in January

Liverpool sit at the summit of the Premier League table and the club hierarchy are keen to press forward their advantage by strengthening Arne Slot’s squad in the January transfer window.

Slot has established Liverpool as a Premier League contender despite spending little money last summer and the club are now prepared to support him.

There are already plans in place to sign a new number 6, which was a priority in the last summer window but they failed to react after Martin Zubimendi declined to leave Real Sociedad.

Liverpool are prepared to sell Wataru Endo to part-fund a move for another midfielder but it seems the club are also looking at reinforcements in other areas of their squad as well.

The club have the best defensive record in the Premier League and one would think that’s not an area of the squad the club are worried about.

However, it seems Liverpool are seriously considering adding to their defensive reinforcements in the middle of the season.

Club want to sign a centre-back in January

Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Jarella Quansah are the top centre-back options Slot has in his squad at this stage of the season.

However, there are fears that an injury could leave them short in the latter half of the season despite their impressive performances thus far.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are firming up plans to try and sign a centre-back in the winter transfer window.

It has been claimed that the club are carrying out due diligence on a potential centre-back signing ahead of the window opening in the new year.

The club are assessing their options as they push to try and sign a new defender for their squad in the middle of the season.

They do agree that signing a top-class option in January would be complicated but they are willing to try their luck when the window opens.

Can you name the club Liverpool signed these players from?

Liverpool didn’t spend much in the summer and have the funds to chase a top target in the winter window if he becomes available in the market.

The club are also expected to move on a few players with Federico Chiesa linked with a return to Italy on loan after failing to impress on Merseyside.

There are suggestions that Liverpool could set up a shock swap deal to land a top midfield target by using Chiesa as a makeweight in the negotiations.
