Jurgen Klopp will let 26-year-old leave: He has never played a game for Liverpool

LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - MAY 23: (THE SUN OUT, THE SUN ON SUNDAY OUT) Jurgen Klopp manager of Liverpool during the Premier League match between Liverpool and Crystal Palace at Anfield on May 23, 2021 in Liverpool, England.

Liverpool will sell Ben Davies this summer, bringing an end to his confusing career at Anfield.

The 26-year-old has never played a game for the Reds since his emergency move in January 2021.

Currently on loan at Sheffield United, Davies would face an impossible route into the starting XI if he did stay as Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez and last summer’s new signing, Ibrahima Konate, stand in his way.

I imagine that even 20-year-old Sepp van den Berg is closer to becoming a regular for the Reds and he too is on loan in the Championship, plying his trade for Preston North End.

Ben Davies will be allowed to leave Liverpool this summer, the Liverpool Echo reports, as the “forgotten man” has not played a single game for Klopp.

A return to Sheffield United is unlikely due to the club’s financial struggles.

His move to Anfield was an odd one as Ozan Kabak was also signed and Klopp preferred to play midfielders like Jordan Henderson and Fabinho over him.

Ultimately it was Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Philipps who formed the most stable partnership at centre back, helping Liverpool qualify for the Champions League.

This summer is a monumental one for Liverpool and for Klopp. The German recently penned a new deal which means he will be at the club until 2026.

That was FSG’s most important deal this year.

Yet, Sadio Mane leaving the club along with Divock Origi means investment in attack is vital. Mohamed Salah is also yet to be tied down to a new contract.

For Liverpool, this represents a moment of transition as they look to replace Mane, arguably the lynchpin for all the success enjoyed under Klopp.
