Liverpool sit at the summit of the Premier League table with several players coming to the fore at the start of the season to keep the momentum going for the Reds.
New Liverpool boss Arne Slot has earned praise for getting the best out of certain players and rejuvenating the careers of stars such as Ibrahima Konate and Ryan Gravenberch this season.
However, there are players in the Liverpool squad who are looking over their shoulders as several of them have yet to match the consistent performances of their teammates.
Liverpool are looking at overhauling the squad in the next two transfer window and a few players’ futures could be decided in the coming months if their performances do not improve.
A national team captain is feeling the heat at Anfield
Dominik Szoboszlai has played as the number 10 in Slot’s team this season but has failed to rack up the numbers that players of his position are expected to.
He is yet to score a goal in the Premier League this season and has registered just two assists. His only goal this term came in the 3-1 win over AC Milan at the San Siro.
Slot recently admitted that the Hungary captain needs to step up and score and create more goals given he is the creative midfielder in the team.
Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?
He said: “Something we have to work on is making him even more involved in scoring goals.
“He scored three last season but for an attacking midfielder at Liverpool, his numbers need to go up. I am confident with the quality he has and the players around him he will score more goals as well.”
It emerged last month that Liverpool are considering selling the Hungarian next summer and bringing in a replacement.
The club could have his replacement on Merseyside
Liverpool could be looking to replace the player in the transfer market but they could have their replacement ready inside the system.
Trey Nyoni joined Liverpool from Leicester City last year and is seen as one of the brightest young prospects in their academy.
The 17-year-old has featured in the attacking midfield role for the Under-18s this season and has been freely scoring and creating goals.
If he continues to perform, there is a real chance he could be called up to the senior squad sooner rather than later.
Many feel Nyoni could be the player who could eventually threaten Szoboszlai’s place in the team.
