Liverpool to seal ‘game-changing’ transfer this week

Wirtz rejected a move to Bayern Munich, despite getting offered a more lucrative contract, once Liverpool managed to sell their project to him last month.

He only wants to join Liverpool, but negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen have been complicated as they are insistent on getting a package worth more than £126m.

However, there has been progress in talks, and according to Sky Deutschland, the two clubs are now close to finalising an agreement for the transfer.

A deal could be in place soon, and Wirtz could even travel to Merseyside this week for a medical if everything goes according to plan.

The player’s insistence on joining Liverpool has helped the club to negotiate the transfer as they have had no competing interest from other clubs.

The final deal will not only break the club-record fee for a player, but could also end up being the most expensive transfer of the Premier League.

Even Manchester City were interested in him, but were under the impression that he only wanted to join Bayern Munich.
