Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool ‘preparing paperworks to complete deal’ for €60m 25-year-old- clubs discussing final details

Luis Diaz

Liverpool are putting the final touches on a deal to sign Luis Diaz says Fabrizio Romano and he should soon be a Red.

Liverpool weren’t prepared to pay €80million to sign the forward as you would expect but when it emerged that Porto were willing to do business with Spurs at a lower price, the Reds burst into action.

The speed with which they reacted to a rival trying to sign a target of theirs sums up why Liverpool have had so much success in the transfer market in recent years as a €45 million (£37.5 million) fee was agreed with Porto with a further €15 million to follow in add-ons, according to James Pearce and the Athletic.

Fabrizio Romano reports Liverpool are working on final details on Diaz deal

In order to sign Luis Diaz before the January deadline, Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool and Porto are discussing the final details and preparing paperworks but personal terms were not an issue as Luis Diaz agreed to join immediately.

The Italian reports: “Liverpool and FC Porto are preparing paperworks in order to complete Luís Diaz deal as soon as possible.

“Clubs discussing on final details – while Diaz has agreed personal terms to join Liverpool immediately.

“Luís Diaz will sign with Liverpool on a five year deal.”

Sadio Mane reaction to Diaz arrival is going to be fascinating to watch

For the first time in his Liverpool career, Mane’s position on the pitch is truly under threat.

When Phillipe Coutinho was at the club, the Brazilian would often dovetail with the former Southampton star but Jurgen Klopp’s preference for pace from his inside forwards meant Coutinho would never truly displace Mane in that role.

Sadio Mane

However, Diaz is a veritable threat to Mane’s role in the side and even his place at the club as he looks to the future. The Reds need to rebuild somewhat and as an almost 30-year-old, Mane is one of the players whose future is a question mark.

But how he reacts to Diaz being signed is ultimately going to decide whether or not he gets a contract extension or not. If he rises to the challenge and shows the form that helped the Reds win the Premier League in 2019/20, everyone wins.

When Diaz first arrives, it’s highly unlikely he will go straight into the side as the demands placed on a forward in Jurgen Klopp’s team are huge but once he’s deemed ready to start, I fully expect us to see the best from Sadio Mane.
