Liverpool “would like to present a proposal” for “monstrous” star but must increase offer to “at least €40m”

Gleison Bremer

Liverpool are reportedly lining up a bid for Gleison Bremer with one report suggesting Joe Gomez will leave to make room for his arrival.

Goal’s Neil Jones reported that Liverpool have made “informal enquiries” regarding the Brazilian’s availability this summer but suggested a “move to Anfield would depend on outgoings”.

With Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip ensconced at the heart of Jurgen Klopp’s defence for the majority of games this season, it’s been quite difficult for Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez to find regular game time.

Darwin Nunez and Ibrahima Konate

Konate is still finding his feet at the club and as his gift to Darwin Nunez last week proved, he still has a way to go until he is ready to start consistently in the biggest games.

Gomez, meanwhile, is in a different place entirely with several major injuries making it difficult to build on the obvious potential he has.

If Liverpool were to sign Bremer, it would be likely that Gomez would leave as he has been linked with Aston Villa and Birmingham Live suggests the Reds’ interest means the Reds “are already making plans for” the Englishman’s exit.

They base this assumption on TuttoMercato’s claim that Liverpool “would like to present a proposal of €30million” to win the race to sign Bremer.

Calciomercato cites the newspaper La Stampa as reporting that it will take “at least €40m” to prise the “monstrous” centre-back from Torino’s grasp this summer.

Gomez is still only 24 and so I’d love to see him fight for his place at the club and prove why he’s so highly rated by Jurgen Klopp, who called him a “sensational footballer” after a 2-0 win over West Ham during Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning season.

His injury record is a concern. The former Charlton Athletic star has suffered four separate injuries that kept him out for over 120 days each, totalling 717 days on the sidelines.

This season, he has avoided injury and has largely been kept to the side by Klopp, prompting speculation over what the future holds for him.

Yet, Neil Jones (one of the most reliable local journalists) reports for Goal: “Aston Villa and Newcastle have both been linked, but Gomez is determined to stay on Merseyside and he is still viewed by Jurgen Klopp as part of Liverpool’s long-term plans.”
