Liverpool are in need of a new central midfielder and new Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo is unconvinced by Tanguy Ndombele, reports the Athletic – it’s the perfect storm for Jurgen Klopp.
Ndombele was reportedly available to face Arsenal in the pre-season North London friendly on Sunday but Nuno did not select him in his 25-man squad.
Charlie Eccleshare writes: “Ndombele, for his part, is weighing up his options. A move away from Tottenham is a possibility.”
Liverpool are a side that would benefit tremendously from a midfielder with Ndombele’s agility and athleticism.
Georginio Wijnaldum is the best in the world at what he does and it’s why PSG were so ready to gazump Barcelona’s salary to sign him this summer.
He left Anfield due to disputes over the length of his contract, according to James Pearce, and while the likes of Bissouma, Tielemans, Sanches and Saul have all been linked, Ndombele would be the best player to replace Wijnaldum.
He joined Tottenham for £53.8m, according to BBC, and with his stock now seemingly plummeting, it’s the best chance that Liverpool will have of signing him.
Liverpool still need to sell a non-homegrown player to make room to sign Ndombele, a Frenchman, but if the Reds can get him in to replace Wijnaldum, Jurgen Klopp’s squad depth will go through the roof.
Replacing a 30-year-old, a very talented one that, of course, with a 24-year-old with an incredibly bright future, could be yet another masterclass from Michael Edwards and co.
He’d be the perfect signing to get Liverpool fans back on side after what has been an underwhelming window so far.
