Liverpool man in talks with Saudi Pro League club

Liverpool made a lot of big transfers this summer. Off the back of a huge title win for Arne Slot, the Reds meant business and invested funds across the whole squad.

Fans were excited to see new names like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz, but so far the reality has been a mixed bag. Liverpool started the season well, but they fell off the pace a bit in October.

Arne Slot’s side only ended their losing run of games against Aston Villa on Saturday night. Before that, the Reds had just one win in their last seven games in all competitions.

Hugo Ekitike might be the only summer signing who has proved his worth this season. The rest are yet to hit the ground running including marquee signings like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.

Key man behind Liverpool transfers set to leave

During this poor run of form, some news around Anfield has already made the headlines. Including Mohamed Salah’s links with a move to the Saudi Pro League resurfacing after his unflattering start to the season.

Now, another Liverpool man could be off to Saudi Arabia per reports. Richard Hughes is a top target for Al-Ahli according to journalist Ahmed Al-Ajlan. It is believed that Hughes has already engaged the Saudi club in talks.

Liverpool Signings Under Richard Hughes (Since 2024)
Player Name Transfer Fee (£)
Florian Wirtz £116,000,000
Alexander Isak £125,000,000
Hugo Ekitike £79,000,000
Milos Kerkez £40,000,000
Jeremie Frimpong £29,500,000
Giorgi Mamardashvili £29,000,000
Giovanni Leoni £26,000,000
Armin Pecsi £1,500,000
Will Wright £200,000

But there is the belief that even if a deal is struck, the Liverpool transfer guru will leave in the summer and not immediately. Chelsea’s Paul Winstanley is another name that Al-Ahli are seriously considering.

Not the time to let go of Richard Hughes

Letting such a key figure among Liverpool transfers go would be a poor decision from the club. He only started his work last year, and with how the Reds operate with a long-term vision, this exit could be very unlikely.

In the meantime, Arne Slot has to guide his team back on track after a huge win over Aston Villa. Liverpool have a tough set of fixtures up next, with Manchester City, Real Madrid and Nottingham Forest in the next few weeks.

The Reds were buoyed by the return of Ryan Gravenberch in the middle of the park, and hopefully his return to the team will see some points on the board.
