Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has made contact with Mohamed Salah’s agent Ramy Abbas after his prolific start to the Premier League season.
Three goals and three assists in three games is amazing but Liverpool fans are used to this sort of excellence from the Egyptian.
So hear Salah talk about this potentially being his last season is frightening. So news that Liverpool are making the first steps towards his contract doesn’t expire at the end of the season is encouraging.
Richard Hughes makes contact with Salah’s agent
Speaking on The Athletic‘s ‘Walk On’ podcast, journalist Simon Hughes admits that he’s not surprised to hear that Hughes has made contact with Ramy Abbas.
He said: “I wasn’t surprised now, because obviously, Liverpool haven’t spoken to him. Richard Hughes has made contact with his agent Ramy Abbas, I believe just to introduce himself – but nothing beyond that.
“So I wasn’t surprised that Salah spoke about it as well. I mean, he has done this in the past.
“What I sort of saw was an indication that even though the wording was possibly slightly careless from him, I see that as an attempt for him to try and find out what Liverpool are going to offer him, if they’re going to offer him anything.
“That’s how I saw that. He obviously wants to sort of engage one way or another.”
This is exactly what Liverpool fans needed to hear
Liverpool fans have been anxiously awaiting news on Salah’s future, and the recent update regarding the club’s efforts to secure his long-term stay is precisely the reassurance they needed.
The way he carved his way through Manchester United on Sunday was a stark reminder of where Liverpool might be without him.
Before the Egyptian joined Liverpool, the period between 2015 and 2017, the Reds were good but not an elite outfit. Ever since he made the switch to Anfield, Liverpool have been an elite force to be reckoned with.
Salah seems to be in peak condition and may well have several years left in him. His numbers speak for themselves.
