Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has some big decisions to make in the next month or so as pressure ramps up on him to make sure that Arne Slot gets the backing he deserves in the January transfer window.
The club have been looking at several players ahead of the winter window as they seek to try and find good market opportunities in the next window.
Hughes is under pressure to back Slot after the Dutchman took the team to the summit of the Premier League table with little to help in the market in the last transfer window.
However, the Liverpool dealmaker will also have to be mindful of potential outgoings as the club will need to find a balance in their squad for the latter half of the season.
It has been claimed that Liverpool have made a definitive transfer decision on a player who has been linked with a move away from Anfield in the winter window.
The Reds make a big transfer call
Federico Chiesa was the only first-team signing of the summer for Liverpool and he has so far flattered to deceive.
He has played just 78 minutes of football and has not been fit enough to play since before the October international break.
His agent has been talking with clubs in Italy who want him back on loan and the winger, who has suitors in Turkey as well, is also not happy with his situation in England.
However, according to The Athletic, Liverpool have not written off Chiesa and do not want to move him on in the January transfer window.
The club are now basically giving him a mini pre-season in the hope of getting his fitness up to a certain level so that he can handle the intensity of training.
Can you name the team Liverpool sold these players to?
Liverpool will continue to work on his fitness and hope that he will be ready to contribute in the latter half of the season.
Arne Slot wants all hands on deck in the latter half of the campaign when Liverpool will be looking to chase down a Premier League title.
The club still believe that Chiesa can contribute despite his current struggles with fitness in England.
