Liverpool’s midfield target Gavi is now set to extend his contract at Barcelona, according to the latest reports.
The 17-year-old has been widely regarded as one of the best young players in the world and has attracted interest from almost all of the elite clubs in Europe.
With the player stalling over contract details last month, Liverpool were primed to make an offer for the wonderkid but nothing prevailed.
According to Fabrizio Romano, it seems Gavi is set to stay at Barcelona and sign a new agreement.

Liverpool Interest
Last month, Liverpool had reportedly made an offer to Gavi and Barcelona – a club still drowning in debt – are desperate to re-sign the Spanish international to a new contract.
At the time, the Reds turned their focus to Gavi having lost out to Real Madrid over the transfer of Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni.

The 17-year-old has been a revelation at Barcelona and has already made 10 appearances for the senior national team, scoring one goal.
He also featured 46 times (yes 46!) for the Catalan side last season scoring twice and assisting six in La Liga.
Alongside Pedri, the pair of midfielders are tipped to become the best midfielders in the world one day.

Barcelona’s Financial Issues
The Catalonians are in ‘serious financial distress’ and have been selling assets in order to fund transfers and contract deals.
Bringing in the likes of Frank Kessie from AC Milan and Andreas Christensen from Chelsea has been a difficult long process due to the lack of funds and Gavi has been at serious risk of leaving his boyhood club in the last month.
But it seems the club has been raising funds by selling TV rights with Gavi’s contract being a priority for the club with an ‘agreement’ now in place.

The new deal is set to include a £1bn release clause to ward off potential suitors, a trend that Real Madrid have also followed in recent years.
Gavi is seen as the future of the club in Barcelona and it seems the window of opportunity for Liverpool to strike has gone.
Nothing is certain with Barcelona’s finances as of right now, but the Reds can look to talent of their own such as 19-year-old Harvey Elliot to soften the blow.
