Liverpool are making enquiries over possible replacements for Gini Wijnaldum if he decides to leave the club and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria is of interest.

This is according to sources close to Anfield Central, who claim the Switzerland powerhouse is now being considered ahead of Yves Bissouma from Brighton and Hove Albion.

While Wijnaldum’s future has yet to be definitively decided, he is yet to sign a new contract with the Reds and Liverpool wouldn’t be doing their job if they weren’t planning for a future without him.

Zakaria is a box to box midfielder with brilliant technical ability. If fans were worried about losing Wijnaldum’s ability to resist opposition press then they haven’t seen Zakaria in action before.

Not only does he have pace and power reminiscent of Premier League legend Yaya Toure, he has the agility and dribbling that has made Manchester United’s Paul Pogba a fun to watch but controversial figure in England.

While he is excellent at driving through midfield with the ball at his feet, the 1.9m star is also superb at reading the play and intervening when dangerous counter-attacks are beginning to form which makes him the perfect midfielder for Jurgen Klopp’s system.

For those that have never watched Zakaria, the above is a nine-minute video comprised of clips of the powerful midfielder showcasing his pace, strength and intelligence.

He seems as though he wouldn’t struggle to play alongside the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Thiago or Naby Keita and as with Emre Can’s departure from Anfield and Fabinho’s arrival, he would likely help supporters forget how good Wijnaldum has been for the club.
